Bizarrely, I always forget she’s in that scene.

Looking at this again, I’m realizing I base a big part of my Charles characterization on this scene. Specifically, the way he steps into Cerebro and clasps his hands behind his back and gives Erik a reassuring look. Just sticking my head into this experimental amplifier, nbd! There are railings right in front of him, but he doesn’t reach for them til the machine goes on and he’s instantly, visibly overwhelmed. This is not a guy who’s comfortable acknowledging that he’s vulnerable.
It just occurs to me, the syyyyymbolism of Charles and Erik’s respective helmets and what their headgear says about their respective philosophies. Charles wears a Cerebro helmet that extends his reach and connects him with other mutants. Erik wears a helmet that shuts everyone and everything out. :-/
